What? Hollywood Promoting Morals?
Big time Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein made news recently when he said he has decided to stop making violent movies because Sandy Hook taught him that guns are bad. Some of Weinstein's net worth of over $130 million was made possible from producing super violent movies such as:
Kill Bill Vol. I
Kill Bill Vol. II
the Scream movies
None of these movies were ever close to a PG-13 rating and some of them were the dreaded NC-17 until they were trimmed to ¨acceptable¨ R ratings.
Many conservatives are no fans of violent movies, so if Weinstein says he has stopped making them, I suppose every little bit helps. Of course his motive is he thinks that by not making violent movies and fighting for gun control he will save lives. He says he plans on making a movie attacking the NRA. ¨They're going to wish they weren't alive after I'm done with them,¨ Weinsten said.
I know that ¨liberal logic¨ is an oxymoron, but if saving lives is important to Weinstein then his next step should be making movies the condemn promiscuity, abortions, and gay sex. After all, 1.2 million babies are aborted every year. The New York Times would have you believe that 5% of men are gay. I think it is probably closer to 2%, but let's be PC and use the Times numbers. There are about 15,000 deaths from AIDS each year. Since this mainly involves gay men, it would be 300,000 per year if it affected the general male population at the same rate. Either way, that is too many deaths and it would be great to see Hollywood make movies that would curb the behaviors that lead to these deaths.
Let's put this in perspective with deaths caused by mass shootings in the United States. Of course any violent death is bad, but statistics show that the nation sees between 100-200 deaths from mass shootings per year.
So, if changing the content of violence in movies to save 100 lives is a great idea, sounds like changing the content of irresponsible sexual behavior in movies to save more than a million lives is an even better idea.
Sadly, I think liberal logic would never go for this, because liberal and logical are not compatible.
